Biography

Foot care nursing is something I have been considering for many years where I have finally went ahead and reached another goal/milestone in my career. Often I come across patients with long and thick toenails that have been neglected for many months, for a variety of reasons. Patients and families often ask for foot care especially in the hospital settings where it is usually not available. Long nails are not only uncomfortable, they can cause toe deformities, skin wounds and unsteady gait where risk for falling may occur. If not treated, this can also lead to infections and amputations.

I have been a nurse working in the hospital setting for the past 14 years. I completed the Practical Nursing program in 2008 at Sheridan College. I continued my nursing education in 2010 by enrolling in the RPN to BScN bridging program through Nipissing University where I graduated in 2016 obtaining my RN- Bachelor of Science in Nursing title. I started working on a busy Orthopeadic floor in 2008 as an RPN, taking care of patients undergoing bone and ligament surgeries and repairs. In 2017 I joined the hospitals staffing team as an RN, where I still currently work on a casual basis. In this role I work all over the hospital including emergency, medicine, surgery, stroke, neurosurgery, spine, orthopeadic, cardiology, cardiovascular, mental health and rehab/seniors floors. During the pandemic I have also gained additional training to help out with nursing workloads in the ICU units gaining the title “nurse extender”.
